SEOTION 2.

Sir J. Jordan to Sir Edward Grey.-—(Received June 8.) (No. 101.) (Telegraphic.) P.

Peking, June 8, 1907. WITH reference to my immediately preceding telegram of yesterday's dato, I have the honour to inform you that I am now in receipt of replies from His Majesty's Consuls at Amoy and Swatow.

The former informs me that the country from Amoy to beyond Changpu is now free from disturbance; while His Majesty's Consul at Swatow reports that the news- paper accounts of the local disturbances were greatly exaggerated. The General who was sent to the disturbed area to restore order dispersed the rioters immediately, and has already returned to Swatow. There was never the slightest occasion for anxiety.
